The National Health Service provides us with free healthcare, hospital treatment, mental health services and old age care on the basis that we contribute to “national insurance” and a few taxes. This is extended to people who work in the UK, students in the UK under certain circumstances, and British nationals abroad (with the right form) who can use that country’s health services.
